The Chancellor delivered her Spring Statement in Parliament, providing an update on the UK’s economic position and the government’s priorities moving forward.
There was encouraging news, with inflation continuing to fall and economic growth exceeding expectations. January also saw a healthy surplus, contributing to a reduction in debt and lower borrowing – important signs that the economy is beginning to stabilise.
We are also seeing tangible progress in our public services. NHS waiting lists are continuing to fall, ambulance response times are now at their fastest in five years, and A&E waiting times are at their shortest in four years. These improvements are being driven by the additional investment and focus delivered by this Labour government.
While there is more work to do, these are clear signs of progress. After years of Conservative mismanagement, I am confident that the government is taking the right steps to restore stability, strengthen our public services, and deliver for communities like ours.
