It was great to meet the Government’s Space Minister, Baroness Lloyd, to discuss how we can bring more high-skilled, well-paid engineering and manufacturing jobs to our area.
Our region is already home to an important and growing cluster of space and satellite businesses, particularly in Aycliffe and Sedgefield. These companies are developing cutting-edge technologies and playing a vital role in one of the UK’s most innovative and fast-growing sectors.
During our discussion, I highlighted the strength of our local space industry and the opportunities it presents for creating jobs, supporting apprenticeships and attracting further investment into the area. With the right support, these businesses can continue to grow, innovate and compete on the global stage.
I am keen to work closely with the Minister, local companies and industry partners to ensure our space and satellite sector has the backing it needs to thrive, creating new opportunities and helping to drive economic growth across our communities.
