I am proud to have been part of the successful campaign to save Octric Semiconductors in Newton Aycliffe, securing the future of high-tech manufacturing jobs in our area.

Having worked on this project since before becoming an MP, I was delighted that shortly after the election, the Labour Government stepped in to secure the plant, with the Ministry of Defence purchasing the site. I was proud to join Defence Secretary John Healey MP for the announcement, which confirmed a £20 million investment to protect existing jobs and create opportunities for growth and expansion.

This investment not only safeguards vital manufacturing roles in our community but also demonstrates how government support can drive innovation and provide real prospects for local people, including apprenticeships and training opportunities for young residents.

This is exactly what we have seen recently with the start of a new apprenticeship programme launched at Octric.
