Delivering high-quality, well-paid jobs for local people is my number one priority. I am committed to ensuring that our community thrives by protecting existing opportunities and attracting new investment. Before becoming our MP and since my election, I’ve worked tirelessly to safeguard the future of the Hitachi Rail factory in Newton Aycliffe, securing over £800 million in investment to keep the factory open, protecting  the livelihoods of many local families.

Working with Defence Secretary John Healey, I secured government investment in the semi-conductor plant in Newton Aycliffe, saving the plant from closure. Jobs and apprenticeships at the factory are expanding, widening access to world-class engineering opportunities.

I’m working hard to grow the number of jobs in our area, promoting the huge potential of Aycliffe Business Park and NETPark in Sedgefield to government and private investors. I’m proud that these are not just spaces for business but centres of innovation, home to cutting-edge technology and world-class industries.

I’m committed to building on the world-leading expertise in advanced manufacturing, space and satellite technology and the innovative defence sector that our area is renowned for. By supporting local businesses, attracting new investment and championing high-tech industries, we can create long-term, sustainable opportunities for our residents and ensure that our community remains at the forefront of economic growth.

I want to make sure everyone growing up in our area has access to excellent quality, well-paid jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities here on our doorstep.
